Specification
Andrej Kmeť (19. 11. 1841 – 16. 2. 1908) – priest, nationalist, and amateur scientist – botanist, archaeologist, ethnographer, and museologist, is one of the last polymaths of Slovak national history. He was among the leading figures and organizers of scientific and cultural life and is considered the founder of Slovak museology.
He was the initiator of the establishment of the Slovak Museum Society in Turčiansky Sv. Martin (1893) and its first and lifelong chairman. He contributed to the construction of the first building of the Slovak National Museum in Turčiansky Sv. Martin (1906 – 1907). He donated numerous collections to the museum, among the most valuable of which are a herbarium containing more than 77 thousand items and skeletal remains of a mammoth. He is the author of numerous popular and professional articles and books. He was interested in ethnography, folklore, and promoted Slovak folk art abroad. His greatest successes were in botany, and several plants he discovered bear his name. He was a member of several domestic and international scientific societies.

Obverse side:
On the obverse of the coin, in the composition of a stylized mound in the shape of the letter M, symbolizing the museum and the Slovak Museum Society, are depicted attributes of museum collection activities. Gothic architectural elements symbolize the extraordinary value of cultural heritage reaching into the distant past, clocks are a symbol of the passage of time, a wooden house and an old cross from the cemetery represent village architecture. The name of the state SLOVAK REPUBLIC is inscribed at the top edge of the coin, and below it is the state emblem of the Slovak Republic. The designation of the nominal value 200 Sk is at the bottom of the coin field. The year of issue 2008 is located at the lower right edge of the coin, and below it is the initial of the surname of the artistic designer Štefan Novotný N and the mark of the Kremnica Mint.

Reverse side:
On the reverse of the coin, in the center of the coin field, is depicted a portrait of Andrej Kmeť, in the right part supplemented by fragments of objects from his collecting activities. At the left edge is inscribed the name and surname ANDREJ KMEŤ, and at the right edge are the years of his birth and death 1841 – 1908.
