Bardejov, the administrative and cultural center of Upper Šariš, is located in the northeastern part of Slovakia. The former free royal town is characterized by a wealth of monuments, forming one of the most precious urban ensembles in Slovakia. The rich secular and ecclesiastical architecture, which still imparts a medieval character to it today, is the result of its flourishing in the 14th and 15th centuries. The most precious building is the monumental Church of St. Egidius. Its eleven winged Gothic altars with panel paintings are among the world's unique treasures. The square, lined with burgher houses of Gothic and Renaissance origin, and the town hall from the early 16th century deserve attention. The Gothic fortifications are among the best-preserved urban wall systems in the European context. In 2000, the historic core of the town, along with the preserved complex of the Jewish synagogue and ritual baths, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Obverse:
On the obverse of the coin, the architectural dominants of Bardejov's square are depicted in the center of the coin field – on the left, the Church of St. Egidius, on the right, the town hall. Above them is the state emblem, at the top edge of the coin the name of the state SLOVAK REPUBLIC, and at the bottom edge of the coin the nominal value 200 SLOVAK CROWNS. To the left of the church is the mark of the Kremnica Mint, and below it are the stylized initials of the designer of the artistic design, Ján Černaj.

Reverse:
On the reverse of the coin, a period plan of Bardejov with medieval fortifications is depicted in the center of the coin field, with the town's coat of arms to the right of it. The inscription UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE is at the top edge of the coin, below it the year of minting 2004, and at the bottom edge of the coin the name of the town BARDEJOV.
