National artist Janko Alexy (25. 1. 1894 Liptovský Mikuláš - 22. 9. 1970 Bratislava), painter, writer, and publicist significantly influenced the development of modern Slovak painting, cultural and social life. In his artistic creation, he began with a socially motivated expressive expression from the urban periphery, developing genre painting in an original way in paintings inspired by the balladism of folk songs and legends. Later, his interest turned to landscapes. He also engaged in stained glass and tapestries. His most distinctive artistic technique was pastel. Alexy's decorative flat genre pastels are a significant contribution to Slovak artistic creation. He is the author of several short stories and novels and was also active as an art publicist.
Obverse side:
In the center is depicted the head of a woman harmoniously connected with the landscape from Alexy's work Shepherdess. In the coin field, there is also the state emblem, the name of the state "SLOVAK REPUBLIC", the nominal value, and the year of minting.
Reverse side:
In the coin field, the central image is a portrait of Janko Alexy. To the right of the portrait, along a vertical line, is a facsimile of his signature along with the dates of his birth and death.
