Twelve stars transforming into human figures represent the birth of a new Europe. In the upper right, the name of the issuing country "SUOMI FINLAND" and the years "1985 – 2015" are inscribed in a semicircle. On the right side between the flag and the years is the mint mark. At the bottom right are the artist's initials (Georgios Stamatopoulos). The outer ring of the coin features twelve stars of the European Union flag. To celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the EU flag, eurozone finance ministers decided that eurozone member states should issue commemorative coins worth 2 EUR using a common motif on the national side. The winning design was selected by citizens and residents of the eurozone in a public online vote. They had a choice of five designs previously selected by an expert jury based on a design competition of European mints. They chose the motif created by Mr. Georgios Stamatopoulos, a professional designer at the Bank of Greece.
