Specification
In Hungary, until the end of the 17th century, only a man elected by the national assembly could become king. If a ruler wished for his son to succeed him on the throne, he had to persuade the magnates to elect and crown him. After the coronation, the country had two kings: the reigning father and his son, who became the ruler only after his father's death. King Maximilian secured the crown for his firstborn son Rudolf. He was crowned in Pressburg on September 25, 1572. Rudolf became the actual ruler of Hungary only in 1576. He was also the Roman Emperor of the German nation and the King of Bohemia. He stayed in Hungary only occasionally – he chose Prague as his permanent residence, where he also had the Hungarian crown taken. His reign in Hungary was marked by Ottoman expansion from the south and estate uprisings associated with the Protestants' struggle for religious freedom. In 1608, Rudolf renounced the Hungarian crown and throne in favor of his younger brother Matthias.
Obverse:
On the obverse of the collector euro coin is the Hungarian royal crown, complemented in the background by a period depiction of Bratislava. The name of the state "SLOVAKIA" is inscribed at the top edge of the coin field, with the state emblem of the Slovak Republic below it. To the left of the royal crown is the year "2022". The mark of the Kremnica Mint, a state enterprise, consisting of the abbreviation "MK" placed between two dies, and the stylized initials of the collector euro coin's author Karol Ličko "KL" are to the right of the royal crown.
Reverse:
On the reverse of the collector euro coin is a portrait of King Rudolf, flanked on both sides by a decorative ornament – a pearl border. At the top of the coin field is the inscription of the nominal value "100 EURO". From left to right, the inscriptions "CORONATION OF RUDOLF" and "BRATISLAVA 1572" are inscribed, separated from each other and from the nominal value by graphic marks.
