Specification:
The significant strategic location of the town on the western border of the Kingdom of Hungary near strategic trade routes and the need to strengthen the state's defense in the northwest were the reasons why the Hungarian King Louis I decided to include Skalica among the privileged free royal towns. He did so with a donation charter dated October 6, 1372, and issued in Trnava. Although the original of this charter has not been preserved and we know it only from a transcript, it is still evident that it had a fundamental historical significance for the further development of the town. Skalica was granted the right and duty to fortify itself with walls, its population was exempted from paying taxes and other fees until their construction was completed. The goods of the people of Skalica were exempted from the thirtieth and toll throughout the kingdom. The town was granted the right to organize weekly and annual markets as well as all the privileges that other royal towns already had. Thanks to this, Skalica became an important center of economic, cultural, and spiritual life in the wider area.
Obverse side:
On the obverse of the collector's euro coin is depicted the Rotunda of St. George in composition with the autograph of the Gothic charter by which King Albert I confirms Skalica's older town privileges. In the lower part of the coin field is the state emblem of the Slovak Republic. In the upper part of the coin field is the inscription of the state name "SLOVAKIA", the year "2022" and the mark of the Kremnica Mint, a state enterprise, which consists of the abbreviation "MK" placed between two dies. Below the state name is the nominal value "10 EURO" in two lines.
Reverse side:
On the reverse of the collector's euro coin is the silhouette of the historical appearance of the town of Skalica complemented by the historical seal of the town. In the upper part is the inscription "FREE ROYAL TOWN". In the lower left part of the coin field is the name of the town "SKALICA" and below it the year "1372". The stylized initials of the collector's euro coin author Mgr. art. Peter Valach are in the lower right part.
