Milan Rastislav Štefánik (21. 7. 1880 – 4. 5. 1919), scientist, military pilot, diplomat, and Minister of War of the Czechoslovak Republic, is one of the most significant figures in Slovak history. He worked as an astronomer at the observatory in Meudon near Paris, from where he conducted many scientific expeditions. In 1912, he obtained French citizenship. At the beginning of World War I, he was mobilized and in 1915, at his own request, was assigned to the aviation school. As a pilot, he conducted reconnaissance and fighter flights and was a pioneer of military meteorology. In June 1918, he was promoted to brigadier general due to his mission with the Czechoslovak army, which he helped to establish. He also achieved success as a diplomat. He informed about the difficult situation of Slovaks in Hungary and gained foreign statesmen for the idea of a common state of Czechs and Slovaks. Together with Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and Edvard Beneš, he led the Czechoslovak foreign resistance and contributed to the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic.
Obverse:
On the obverse of the collector's euro coin, as a symbol of the state-building activities of Milan Rastislav Štefánik, a Czech lion with a crown on its head and a Slovak emblem on its chest from the small state emblem of the Czechoslovak Republic is depicted in composition with the map of the Czechoslovak Republic. In the right part of the coin field is the state emblem of the Slovak Republic, above which is the denomination of the collector's euro coin "10 EURO" in two lines. The name of the state "SLOVAKIA" is inscribed along the upper edge of the collector's euro coin. Below it is the year "2019". Along the bottom edge of the collector's euro coin is the inscription "BELIEVE • LOVE • WORK". The mark of the Kremnica Mint, a state enterprise, consisting of the abbreviation "MK" placed between two dies, and the stylized initials of the author of the obverse of the collector's euro coin Mária Poldaufová "MP" are under the composition.
Reverse:
On the reverse of the collector's euro coin is depicted a portrait of Milan Rastislav Štefánik, in the right part of the coin field complemented by a Caproni biplane, on which Milan Rastislav Štefánik died in 1919. In the upper part of the coin field are inscribed the years of his birth "1880" and death "1919", separated by a dot. In the left part of the coin field are inscribed the names "MILAN RASTISLAV" and below the portrait is the surname "ŠTEFÁNIK". The stylized initials of the author of the reverse of the collector's euro coin acad. sculptor Ivan Řehák "IŘ" are at the right edge of the collector's euro coin.
