Patrik Kovačovský Mintage: in standard finish 3,100 pcs in proof finish 7,300 pcs Issue date: 27.6.2019 Specification: Universities have been considered centers of education and science and representatives of the cultural maturity of the nation and state since their inception. The first Slovak university-type higher education institution – Comenius University – began its activities in Bratislava at the end of 1919. The first faculty to open its doors to Slovak students was the Faculty of Medicine. The Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Philosophy began their activities two years later (1921), and the Faculty of Natural Sciences in 1940. Teachers and researchers from the Czech Republic, especially from Charles University in Prague, played a significant role in the establishment of the university, accepting the challenge to build the highest Slovak scientific and educational institution together with their Slovak colleagues. Today, the university is an internationally recognized educational and scientific institution. It has 13 faculties, with almost 24,000 students. Obverse: On the obverse of the collector coin, there is an open book in composition with a rising sun disc with rays, which are part of the logo of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava, and two parallel curves emerging from the book. The state emblem of the Slovak Republic is at the bottom of the coin field. The name of the state SLOVAKIA and the year 2019 are in two lines below the open book. To the left of the state emblem of the Slovak Republic is the designation of the nominal value of the collector euro coin 10, and to the right of it is the currency designation EURO. At the edge of the collector euro coin is the inscription UNIVERSITAS COMENIANA BRATISLAVENSIS. Reverse: On the reverse of the collector coin, parts of the logos of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava are depicted in composition with the paragraph symbol characterizing the Faculty of Law. The composition is complemented by the inscriptions JURIDICA, PHILOSOPHICA, and MEDICA. At the edge of the collector euro coin, from left to right, is the inscription COMENIUS UNIVERSITY IN BRATISLAVA. The year of establishment of Comenius University 1919 is at the bottom edge of the collector euro coin. The mark of the Kremnica Mint, a state enterprise, consisting of the abbreviation MK placed between two dies, is to the left of the year, and to the right are the stylized initials of the author of the collector euro coin Prof. Mgr. art.
