Ladislav Nádaši-Jégé (12. 2. 1866 – 2. 7. 1940) is one of the pivotal authors of Slovak interwar literature and a key representative of Slovak literary naturalism. The first period of his work from the turn of the 1880s and 1890s represents satirical prose such as Joke, Flaw, Advantages of Social Life, Mistake, Cure, Revenge. The second period of his work in the 1920s and 1930s is characterized by a shift towards historicism and a gradual transition from short stories and novellas to novels – Wieniawski's Legend (1922), Adam Šangala (1924), Kuruci (1925), Master Knight Donč, Horymír (1926), Svätopluk (1928). Besides prose, he also wrote plays, health-educational articles, and engaged in literary journalism. In the novel Journey Through Life (1930), he returned to a more current theme, the image of the petty bourgeois Slovak society from the 1890s to 1918, and developed his pessimistic and ironic perception of the world. A special place in Jégé's work is occupied by humorous prose from the village environment from the last years of his creation.
