The Zobor charters from 1111 and 1113 are the oldest preserved original charters in Slovakia. The charter from 1111 is written on parchment, measuring 560x320 mm, and is almost undamaged. It is a judgment charter in the dispute of the Zobor abbot Gaufred with royal tax collectors over a third of the toll fees in the castle district of Nitra and along the Váh River up to Trenčín, which were granted to the Zobor church by King Stephen I. More than twenty witnesses, representatives of secular and ecclesiastical institutions in Nitra, appear in the dispute. The charter from 1113 contains an inventory of the Zobor Abbey's properties. It is preserved on damaged thick parchment measuring 460x620 mm, part of which is missing. It mentions up to 200 local names, which are evidence of developed early medieval settlement as well as the predominant Slovak character of the respective territory at the beginning of the 12th century. The seals or signs of sealing have not been preserved on the charters. Both are currently stored in the Nitra Episcopal Archive.
Obverse:
On the obverse of the coin, a pair of Benedictine monks is depicted in an imaginary interior of a period monastery captured while writing charters. At the right edge of the coin is the state emblem of the Slovak Republic, and above it is the year 2011. At the bottom of the coin field is the name of the state SLOVAKIA. The mark of the Kremnica Mint MK and the stylized initials of the author of the artistic design Mgr. art. Peter Valach PV are placed under the name of the state.
Reverse:
On the reverse of the coin, in the right part of the coin field, a fragment of the text of the first Zobor charter is depicted, complemented by the seal of the chapter of the Church of Saint Hypolite from Zobor. In the left part, parallel to the line indicating a Romanesque arch, is the inscription ZOBOR CHARTERS, followed by the years of their creation 1111 and 1113 in two lines. The designation of the nominal value 10 EURO is in two lines at the left edge of the coin.
