On June 6-7, 1861, the Slovak National Assembly was held in Turčiansky Svätý Martin, a forum of representatives of Slovak towns and municipalities, which adopted a political program called the Memorandum of the Slovak Nation. The document defined the demands of Slovaks for recognition of national identity in the constitutional, political, cultural, and linguistic areas within the multi-national Hungary. Its main creator was Štefan Marko Daxner. The assembly elected a Permanent National Committee led by Ján Francisci, whose task was to implement the adopted resolutions. The Memorandum is one of the most significant documents of the Slovak national emancipation efforts. It expressed the principles of national identity and the idea of equality, which formed the basic platform of Slovak politics in addressing the national question until the dissolution of Austria-Hungary in 1918.
Obverse:
On the obverse of the coin, a stylized linden tree with a tricolor in the shape of a triple hill is depicted in the upper part of the coin field. Above it, on the left, is a church as a symbol of Christianity, and on the right, Mount Kriváň as a symbol of the protection of the freedom and identity of the Slovak nation. The state emblem of the Slovak Republic is placed in the center of the coin field. Below it is the designation of the nominal value of 10 EURO and the year 2011. The name of the state SLOVAKIA is inscribed along the bottom edge of the coin. The stylized initials of the names and surnames of the co-authors of the artistic design of the obverse of the coin, Mgr. art. Andrea Rolková AR and Pavol Károly PK, are placed at the left and right edges in the bottom strip of the tricolor.
Reverse:
On the reverse of the coin, a group of participants of the Slovak National Assembly in Turčiansky Svätý Martin, which adopted the Memorandum of the Slovak Nation, is depicted in the lower part of the coin field. In the upper part, the facade of the evangelical church with lindens, where the assembly took place, is depicted. The church is artistically complemented by a double cross on a triple hill, as a symbol of Slovakia. The year 1861 and the inscription MEMORANDUM OF THE SLOVAK NATION are placed inside the tricolor. The mark of the Kremnica Mint MK is on the left, and the stylized initials of the name and surname of the author of the artistic design of the reverse of the coin, Mária Poldaufová MP, are on the right of the assembly.
