Ján Cikker (July 29, 1911 – December 21, 1989) is one of the most significant Slovak composers and representatives of Slovak music. His talent and inventiveness were the foundation for a work of great artistic value, inspiring subsequent generations of composers. He belongs to the best that Slovakia can offer the world in the field of culture and art. His work spans almost all genres, but the core consists of operas – Juro Jánošík, Beg Bajazid, Mister Scrooge, Resurrection, The Game of Love and Death, Coriolanus, The Siege of Bystrica, The Verdict, From the Life of Insects, with which he achieved success on the stages of the most significant opera houses. For humanism and ethical principles in his work, the University of Vienna awarded him the Gottfried von Herder Prize (1966). In addition to the title "national artist," he was also awarded the UNESCO Prize for Music in 1979. In 2011, he was posthumously awarded the state decoration Order of Ľudovít Štúr I. class.
Obverse:
On the obverse of the coin, a stylized silhouette of a violin is depicted on the right side, complemented by a harp. At the bottom of the coin field is a composition of buildings of opera houses – the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, the Vienna State Opera, and the State Opera in Prague. The state emblem of the Slovak Republic is placed at the top of the coin field. At the left edge of the coin is the name of the state SLOVAKIA and below it the year 2011. The mark of the Kremnica Mint and the initials of the name and surname of the coin's design author PhDr. Kliment Mitura KM are at the bottom of the coin field.
Reverse:
On the reverse of the coin, a portrait of Ján Cikker is depicted at the top right, complemented by a part of a piano keyboard. Below it is the designation of the nominal value 10 EURO. In the left part of the coin field is the name and surname JÁN CIKKER and the years of his birth and death 1911 – 1989.
